Your luxury farm stay experience
in the beautiful Lockyer Valley
in the beautiful Lockyer Valley
“Karinya” means “peaceful and happy home” which is exactly what we wanted to create for our family when we bought this beautiful rural property in 2008. The kids have since grown up and it is now just the two of us and a menagerie of animals and wildlife that call “Karinya in the Valley” home. We are thrilled to be able to offer the opportunity to share it with others.
Over our time at Karinya we have raised livestock and grown small crops. The seasons have not been kind to us, with prolonged droughts resulting in our irrigation licence being suspended, making the production of food for livestock and humans both difficult and expensive. We were also affected by the big floods of 2011, which changed our landscape considerably.
As primary producers do, we look to diversify and adapt as best we can. Today, we raise bobby calves by bottle; hatch poultry; grow heavy crops in season (primarily pumpkin and watermelon); run equestrian activities & horse agistment; and have also introduced a market garden and orchards this year, as we experiment with what grows well and might be a sustainable option in the future. Of course that too means battling the elements – as they say, if it doesn’t rain, it pours (or hails in our case) and pests are always an issue, especially when we produce our food organically.
Regardless of what nature (and market forces) throw at us, one thing remains – and that is that we have a beautiful property that looks toward the Great Dividing Range and over Lockyers Creek (even when it doesn’t flow). It showcases spectacular sunsets and is a wonderful vantage point to view the stars on a clear night, connect with nature and take time out. So our latest diversification is to open up our property for short term farm stay experiences.
We are into sustainable living, so we have two off grid, eco-friendly, luxurious accommodation options available for those looking to escape reality for a couple of days. On offer are our caretakers cottage, (when not being used by our farm sitters) and a luxury glamping/tiny home option, in our off grid Lotus Trooper. Click on the accommodation options below to learn more.
We look forward to welcoming you to “Karinya in the Valley”
Cheers,
Kent and Kym Briese
Whether this is your first visit, or you have been a guest many times, we want your experience to be excellent. We are always available to help with any questions or concerns you may have.
If you are in to eco friendly, you will love this! The cottage runs off solar power, with battery storage (and a back up generator, just in case we have a series of cloudy days). Heating, cooking and instantaneous hot water are all gas and our rain water supply is recycled onto the lawn through a bio-system.
Your Karinya experience comes complete with luxury robes for use during your stay; quality linens; electric blanket and cosy doona for cool winter nights in your queen bed; ceiling fans and gas heater; hairdryer; luggage rack; Organic Spa products; a private firepit; covered car accommodation; fully equipped kitchen with pantry basics; optional food hampers; double hammock; shared use of pool facilities at the main house (summer only). If you are really looking to unwind, Kent is a qualified massage therapist that can arrange in room massage (remedial or relaxation) for you, for a small fee.
If you are keen to participate in farm activities, we can arrange a tour of our little market garden; feed the animals; pick seasonal produce; you can take a stroll to the dam; birdwatch at the creek; spot wildlife (especially at sunrise and sunset); stargaze and generally enjoy the nothingness of being away from daily life.
Of course if taking time out isn’t your goal, Karinya is also a great base to explore the Lockyer Valley, Somerset and Toowoomba Regions.
If self catering isn’t your thing (fair enough!) there are plenty of options within twenty minutes, from good old fashioned pub meals to a la carte and international cuisine. We’ll give you some options.
Your two night accommodation at Karinya Cottage is just $320 (for two people), with check in from 2pm Friday and late check out at 2pm Sunday.
* additional nights available by negotiation; extra people (using fold out double bed) $40pp.
Optional extras:

Cheese Platter
Seafood Platter
Ploughman’s Lunch
BBQ Pack
Single or Couples Massage.
